Title Sequence
Mikey the Magpie
Motion Design, Illustration, 3D camera
Title Sequences set the film's mood and are also a storytelling device. They can evoke mystery and tension or can be light-hearted. With the brief being open-ended, this project focused on 3D camera movements panning over the hills: effectively engaging the audience to read the credits. Coupled with the fast-paced jazz music, the title sequence introduced “Mikey the Magpie”.
Design Process
I digitally illustrated, refined and edited the illustrations in Illustrator with the brush/pen tool: adding colour and texture. The inspiration was lino prints with thick carved lines and spotty texture. To emulate this, I used After Effects and a 3D camera to pan across the 2D layers. This allowed the target audience - children 3-8 - to interact with the environment and the characters as they were introduced throughout the title sequence.
